Berkshire Youth: Celebrating 85 Years of Empowering Young People

For 85 years, Berkshire Youth has been a lifeline for generations of young people in England, offering hope, belonging, and purpose when it’s needed most.
Founded in 1940, in the aftermath of World War II, the organization emerged from communities determined to help youth rebuild their lives and their confidence. In church halls and youth centers across Berkshire, volunteers gave young people safe spaces to gather, learn, and rediscover joy in uncertain times.
Today, challenges like mental health, education, family life and the cost-of-living crisis mean that today’s young people need trusted support and safe spaces more than ever. Berkshire Youth continues to provide just that. Eighty-five years later, the programs look different, but the mission remains the same: give young people the chance to belong, achieve and contribute to their communities. Whether it’s climbing, kayaking, volunteering, or simply having someone to talk to, Berkshire Youth is a vital lifeline to local youth.
