UK National Association of Boys & Girls Clubs – 100 Years of Impacting Youth

The National Association of Boys & Girls Clubs of the united Kingodm turns 100 this year and the stories behind that milestone are nothing short of powerful. Founded in 1925, when local Boys Clubs from London, Manchester, Merseyside, Birmingham, and Bristol united to form a national organization, NABGC has grown into a force that now serves 300,000 young people through thousands of local clubs and committed volunteers. Today, the stakes for youth are higher than ever. For many young people, especially in the hardest-hit areas, these clubs are a lifeline, offering mentorship, purpose, and safety.
In September, they celebrated with the Centenary Conference in Durham, gathering youth workers, leaders, and visionaries. WYC Global Ambassador Mona Dixon delivered an unforgettable story of resilience and WYC CEO-elect Ken Walsh called for continued collaboration. Workshops by Stephen Crossley and Andrew Heaward sparked meaningful discussions, while the launch of NABGC’s Alumni Hall of Fame celebrated trailblazers like WYC Global Ambassador and Olympic Boxer Lewis Richardson.
Representing World Youth Clubs, Rick Goings and Susan Porcaro Goings led a discussion underscoring the power of global partnership that Affiliates have in advancing youth development. Their message, and NABGC’s 100-year journey, echo a shared belief: when we come together for young people, our collective impact multiplies.
